The Meeting held in conjunction with the Ballajura Rotary Fair was a huge success. We had 59 entries for the day comprising of Buggies and Truggies, the former being the largest class with 39 taking part and a good number of spectators looking on. .jpg)
Before any racing started for the day, the club had several awards to give out to its members. Last year at this event it was decided that the club would recognize the achievements of the younger members and their families at Radio Rally Club…this year was no exception and the awards were given for the perseverance that they have displayed and commitment towards furthering their goals in racing. We had a huge support for this concept from the Local Hobby shops and these were Discount Hobby supplies, Stanbridges and Perth RC models and Hobbies who donated a $50 voucher for each lucky winner.
Discount hobbies also donated a Buggy for one very fortunate winner and as such we now have another driver at the club…so a big thank you to all the owners of these shops for their continued support for the club… .jpg)
And on with the Racing……… With an almost sell out number of drivers , time was of the essence and as soon as the drivers meeting was over it was straight into it with no practice. We ran three ten minute heats for both classes, finals were then sorted, and we decided to put the top 12 truggies straight into an Amain final without any semis as we just didn’t have the time. Buggies had the luxury of semis with the top 24 competing for 12 spots in the buggy Amain.

The track itself was a very rough area that soon turned into a lunar landscape. Trying to get a setup that worked was the order of the day and by the time the first amain was ready to run, the course was very challenging, we decided to remove a large jump as the approach to the jump had disintegrated making it a car killer and not worth the risk to contestants vehicles . We ran 35 minute finals and it wasn’t long before many of the drivers were out due to broken cars, careful driving was called for but being fast was still required to stand on that podium. After some very thrilling driving the top three were:
Buggy - 1st Ian Haley {xray} 2nd Steve Smulders {Kyosho} 3rd Ken Ibister {Xray} Truggy - 1st Kent Griffiths {Hobao} 2nd Jordan Cvetanoski {Mugen} 3rd Doug Thomson {XRay} .jpg)
I can’t leave before also acknowledging the Canteen Ladies that did us so proud at the sausage sizzle. These three ladies - Anita, Paula and Gail - deserve our gratitude, as the money they earn us goes straight back into the club for more improvements to our facilities , so cheers your legends...!
